Operation Endgame, 2010

Luis Camnitzer created the series Operation Endgame (2010) for azple.com. It is a brand new work that links his printmaking practice since the 1960s to the new possibilities of the internet and reflects upon the idea of borders and the immigration policy of the US with means of language.

“I came about this reading an article explaining how deportations under Obama increased in a high percentage. The term ‘remove all removable aliens’ was a throwaway quote, but in quotation marks, which made me pursue it on Google. There I found the official  document from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security from 2003 (so issued under Bush) but still operational today. It is 49 pages long. I put ‘removable aliens’ in the search function of Acrobat and then picked up all the sentences of the document that had those words. By stringing the sentences together, the undeniable poetic quality appeared on its own. (I chose the colors of the type, the red and red/bold is for text that was in boxes or didn’t follow the normal text layout). The 2nd page is the cover of the real official document. I did not add or change anything of the text. The work is really theirs, not mine.” - Luis Camnitzer
