The instition's press release follows:
The galleries of the Museum Ludwig offer space to display around one-third of the permanent collection. To ensure that the broadest possible spectrum of the holdings is on view, the collection remains in continuous flux within the museum.
At regular intervals the works need to undergo conservational examination in order to adequately preserve them. For this reason none of the objects can be guaranteed a permanent, unchanging place within the museum. Graphics and photographic works in particular, due to their sensitivity to light, cannot be exhibited for extended periods of time.
Just as the Museum Ludwig loans artworks from international exhibition institutions for its special exhibitions, our collection also continually receives requests to loan out individual works.
Thank you for your understanding, that we cannot display the entirety of our collection at all times.
