As Loucas, 1964

Regina Silveira included in Os anos em que vivemos em perigo, curated by Marcos Moraes, at Museu de Arte Moderna, São Paulo, Brazil.

The institution's press release follows:

The search for a proposition that could broaden the look on the set of works that make up the MAM collection made it possible to focus on the production of the 1960s, a period marked by political and social upheavals that transformed our country into an anthropophagic cultural melting pot, sweeping the earth. brasilis without missing any corner, backlands or paths.

Proposing a chronicle of that moment, establishing a dialogue with the present, was the path chosen for this exhibition, not opportunistically commemorative, much less laudatory, but in the search to capture the spirit of the time in the MAM collection, which eventually contaminate the present in the past.

An entire generation, united by ideals and behaviors, aware of their role and commitment, calls for freedom, freedom! Everything is under dispute, but, above all, the authority: "It is forbidden to forbid!" This, like other slogans, becomes the watchword, motto, battle cry, password to open fire on the authoritarian family trench, school, directly affects the capitalist system of unbridled consumption.

As I turned to the works, literally entering the bowels of the Museum - the technical reserves - my curative action was impregnated with personal perspective, in which the memories, enveloped in the fog of the boy's reminiscences, lived in those daily moments.

Resuming the constructions of memory gives us the opportunity to insert, in this complex context, the restructuring of the MAM which, in 1969, had its new headquarters inaugurated here, in the old Bahia pavilion, in the Ibirapuera marquee, with the first edition of Panorama da Arte Current Brazilian and, thus, the Museum, its collection, projects, actions and activities withstand the times and survive the setbacks to this day. After all, maybe it's time and not waiting to happen. A set of fifty images evokes a moment of feverish restlessness that leads to paths in the quest to assert hope in political awareness, in the diversity of life translated into poetic actions and ethical compromises, producing insertions in a medium, even if it fades. present totally adverse. Resistance, resilience, rebellion and solidarity go hand in hand through the times in which we live in danger.
