갤러리신라 대구에서는 1960년대부터 개념미술의 선두에 서서 활동해 온 세계적인 작가 루이스 캄니쳐(Luis Camnitzer, 1937- )의 전시를 국내 최초로 개최합니다.

캄니쳐는 1937년 독일 뤼벡에서 태어나 우루과이로 이주한 뒤 몬테비데오 대학과 몬테비데오의 국립예술학교에서 조각과 건축을 전공했습니다. 이후 뉴욕으로 이주한 캄니처는 판화, 오브제 등 다양한 매체를 통해 언어와 관객 사이의 반사적인(reflexive) 관계를 탐구했습니다. 1960년대 후반에 들어서면서, 80년대까지 그의 작업은 라틴 아메리카의 군사 독재 정권의 억압과 잔혹성을 비롯한 사회 정치적 문제를 탐구하는 주제로 확장되었습니다. 그리고 1980년대 이후, 설치 작업과 장소 특정적 작업으로 자신의 세계를 넓혀가고 있습니다.

이번 갤러리 신라 대구 전시에서는 다양한 분야에서 오랫동안 예술에 헌신해 온 작가의 대표 작품인 설치 작업과 판화, 사진 30여 점 등이 국내에서 최초로 공개됩니다. 87세의 작가는 장소특정적 작품의 설치와 전시의 오프닝을 위해 대구에 방문할 예정입니다.

Gallery Shilla Daegu is hosting the first exhibition in Korea by Luis Camnitzer (1937-), a world-renowned artist who has been at the forefront of conceptual art since the 1960s. Camnitzer was born in Lübeck, Germany in 1937, moved to Uruguay, and studied sculpture and architecture at the University of Montevideo and the National Academy of Arts in Montevideo. After moving to New York, Camnitzer explored the reflexive relationship between language and audiences through various media such as prints and objects.

Beginning in the late 1960s and well into the 1980s, his work expanded to themes exploring social and political issues, including the repression and brutality of military dictatorships in Latin America. And since the 1980s, he has been expanding his world through installation and site-specific works. At this Gallery Shilla Daegu exhibition, about 30 representative works of the artist, who has devoted himself to art in various fields for a long time, including installation works, prints, and photographs, will be unveiled for the first time in Korea. The 87-year-old artist will visit Daegu for the installation of site-specific works and the opening of an exhibition. We look forward to seeing many of you.
