Breaking down the boundaries between contemporary art, crafts, current artistic expressions of indigenous peoples and heritage, looking at other ways of life and relieving the cultures present in the territories beyond the geopolitical boundaries of the countries, are some of the proposals that shape the exhibition Arte Contemporáneo. Asia, Australia y el Pacífico: Selección de la Trienal Asia Pacífico de la Queensland Art Gallery  | Gallery of Modern Art.

The exhibition will present a selection of the Ninth Triennial of Asia Pacific of Contemporary Art composed of 37 works by 19 artists and groups, from indigenous peoples such as Palawa, Kunam and Liyagawumirr, as well as works from the United Arab Emirates, Papua New Guinea, Australia , Philippines, New Zealand, Vietnam, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea and Indonesia. This selection was made by the Asia-Pacific Art team of the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane, Australia, under the direction of Zara Stanhope.

The exhibition explores an open curatorial perspective, not thematically directed and presents a diverse contemporary look that recognizes both their original cultures, with the aim of increasing awareness and understanding of the cultural dynamics of the region, the exhibition delivers perspectives on problematic in these territories, among them, the dialogue or the fissures between the first nations and the modern states.

The Triennial, held in Australia between November 2018 and April 2019, is the largest exhibition in the region, with a history of 25 years, becoming a focus of exchange of ideas, innovation and dialogue between the cultures that make up this territory. This is the first time that the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art leaves its traditional space to be displayed outside the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art.
