Regina Silveira's solo exhibition, Regina Silveira: Modus Operandi at Instituto de Arte Contemporânea, São Paulo, Brazil, is on view from March 22–July 26, 2025.

Instituto de Arte Contemporânea's press release follows:

The Institute of Contemporary Art (IAC) presents the exhibition Modus Operandi , dedicated to the creative process of Regina Silveira , one of the most important contemporary Brazilian artists. The exhibition is not limited to bringing together iconic works from her career, but invites the public to delve into the rigorous and investigative methodology that characterizes her production. Through models, sketches, diagrams and preparatory studies, the artist reveals the behind the scenes of her work, revealing the visual thinking that structures her practice.

Divided into eight sections, the exhibition traveled to several countries, consolidating itself as a milestone in the artist's career and in the international dissemination of her work. Each section highlights different aspects of her research, highlighting the multiple approaches and supports used by Regina Silveira throughout her career.

Regina Silveira has always explored the relationship between light and shadow, presence and absence, real and illusory.

“In general, exhibitions present finished, flawless products, purging them of the complex steps, deviations and deformations that led them to exist. Regina Silveira comes to the IAC to unveil her work process, putting it on the table, for everyone to see.”
— Agnaldo Farias, curator

This openness allows the viewer to understand the conceptual and technical dimension of his work, which moves through different supports and scales, always marked by rigorous planning and experimentation.

The exhibition also highlights the importance of the recent donation of part of its archive to the IAC, expanding the institution's collection and ensuring the preservation of one of the most significant collections of documents on contemporary Brazilian art. This initiative reinforces the IAC's commitment to memory and the dissemination of knowledge about the country's artistic production.

The set of works and documents presented in Modus Operandi highlights Regina Silveira's persistent investigation into the mechanisms of perception and the conventions of the gaze.

“more or less deformed, the shadows in Regina Silveira allude to the diversity of points of view. Even more: to the diversity of what common sense claims to be real.”
— Agnaldo Farias, curator

The artist dismantles and reconstructs images, expanding the limits of what is understood as representation and illusionism, provoking new readings of the visual world that surrounds us.

Modus Operandi is therefore more than a retrospective: it is an invitation to follow the paths of invention, to understand the absences that shape presences and to reflect on the transformative power of the gaze. With this exhibition, the IAC reaffirms its role as guardian of the history of contemporary Brazilian art, providing the public with a unique and enriching experience.
