In the first exhibition inaugurated after more than six months of stoppage of face-to-face activities, the Afro Brasil Museum brings to the public a set of works by the American artist Melvin Edwards, revisiting years of career and research by one of the main names in contemporary art.
The Afro Brasil Museum, an institution of the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy of the State of São Paulo , managed by the Museu Afro Brasil Association, will promote on Friday, November 20, the inauguration of the exhibition Melvin Edwards - the sculptor of resistance, which will offer the appreciation of a set of works produced by the American artist at different moments in his almost sixty years of career.
With more than 30 pieces made in different formats and supports, such as metal, wire and steel; the individual brings works produced by the American sculptor on his last visit to the country, in 2019. Already held in spaces such as the Museum of Modern Art of Bahia and the Museum of the Republic (RJ), the exhibition has an expansion of the number of works in relation to previous exhibitions, allowing a visualization of different moments of the almost sixty years of work and research of the plastic artist.
On display until January 31, 2021, Melvin Edwards: The Sculptor of Resistance will also pay tribute to the artist's ex-wife, the poet Jayne Cortez, with the exhibition of one of his poems and tracks from the disc Everywhere drums (1990).
