This panel aims to address art, race and justice in the current transnational art ecosystem, and particularly in residencies. According to artist Francisco Guevara, residencies are spaces where “important ethical questions intersect.” Residencies build connections across cultures and differences, and with this in mind, the panel will consider the ethical responsibilities and commitments of institutions in supporting exchange, new identities, artistic freedom and even confrontation and resistance.
